General & Cosmetic Dentistry Your first appointment will be scheduled to gather information. This information will be used for a proper diagnosis and a tentative treatment plan, which may include several possible implant-reconstructive options . This first appointment will be your Consultation Appointment. During this appointment we may: Take a panographic x-ray and/or some individual periapical x-rays. This allows us to examine all your teeth, their roots, the bone support, and rule out diseases of the teeth and their supporting structures. Furthermore, it gives us an overall view of your bone anatomy and availability for implants. Perform a visual oral examination, where your teeth, soft tissues, lymph nodes and TMJ are examined. Perform a periodontal examination if indicated, where the condition of your gums is checked with a periodontal probe. In some instances take impressions for diagnostic casts and take photographs. Present you with a preliminary treatment plan outlining what treatment is required to restore your dentition back to proper health and function. The Consultation Appointment will take approximately one (1) hour. After the Consultation Appointment, the Doctor will analyze all the data collected and form a comprehensive treatment plan, or several options thereof, addressing your particular oral health issues. This treatment plan and/or its options will be presented to you in a secondary appointment, which will be your Treatment Plan Presentation Appointment. After this appointment you will have a chance to review the treatment plan (options) presented to you, until you schedule your next appointment: the Pre-surgical Appointment. During the Pre-surgical Appointment the doctor will answer any remaining questions you may have, discuss all steps of the surgery and review the continuation of your treatment. He will also give you all the necessary prescriptions for your medications and several instruction sets and consent forms. Diagnostic philosophy: Every Consultation Appointment will result in a Diagnosis and Treatment Plan. The Diagnosis will tell you what the individual problems are. The Treatment Plan indicates a sequence of procedures, which may be necessary to restore you back to optimal oral health or the best possible state thereof. Our philosophy is to look at oral health as a whole rather than just the individual problem and our treatment recommendations will usually follow this concept. Sources of pain, discomfort, or potential hazards to your oral health will be given primary attention. Once a state of acceptable oral and physical health is attained, any implant-reconstructive procedures can begin. X  Rays: Dental x  rays are an important part of diagnosis and treatment. They help us detect problems that may not become immediately evident in a clinical exam. We typically take one panographic x-ray, unless you have had one taken very recently in another office and we can obtain a copy of diagnostic quality. We may also take some individual periapical x-rays or a full mouth set, if necessary, prior to any surgery. All x-rays taken during surgery will be digital in nature which dramatically reduces radiation exposure. We understand concerns regarding radiation and, despite the small amount of x-radiation emitted by dental x-ray units, we utilize lead aprons, fast film, digital technology, and continually monitor x-ray equipment for your safety. With respect to x-rays and any type of surgery, please let us know if pregnancy may be a factor! We place particular emphasis on patient comfort during dental or oral surgical procedures. We have various forms of sedation (including intra-venous sedation and general anesthesia) available for apprehensive patients. In general we will always suggest a treatment plan which yields the best possible outcome and long-term prognosis minimizing any potential risk factors. Our goal is to achieve the highest and most predictable success rates in the field of Implant Dentistry. Cancellation Policy: You can expect us to be on time and ready for your appointment and we ask that you extend us the same courtesy. On rare occasions, however, circumstances beyond our control (sudden emergencies) may force us to delay the start of our appointment a few minutes, although we will always do our best to minimize your waiting time. Our office needs to be notified 48 hours in advance for cancellation or re-scheduling of an appointment for either a doctor s appointment or hygiene appointment. We reserve the right to charge a nominal fee for broken appointments or appointments rescheduled less than 48 hours in advance. Sterilization: All members of our staff have been thoroughly trained in sterilization procedures. We use several autoclave systems in our office. This system sterilizes all surgical instruments by applying high temperature and pressure to completely destroy all microbes. A spore test is being conducted on a regular basis to monitor the effectiveness of the autoclave units. In addition we use ADA approved disinfectant solutions and disposable items throughout our office.
